Year 2001 - 2002 Grant Recipients

The Irene W. and Guy L Anderson Children's Foundation made grant money available to non-profit groups and organizations in the Coachella Valley whose purpose is meeting the unmet needs of the youth of the Coachella Valley.

Grant applications were reviewed and chosen by a 5 member non-partisan committee representing, as best as possible, the geographic areas and ethnic diversities of the Coachella Valley. Project originality and diversity was considered for a maximum of $15,000.00 and grants for lesser amounts. Emphasis was placed on programming which focused on the unmet needs of Coachella Youths.

There were a total of 112 applicants requesting grants from the Anderson Children's Foundation this year. A total amount of funding requested through the process was $1,256,460.22. Out of these, 21 were selected totaling $215,000.00 to be distributed.

2. California Family Life Center (Foster Family Agency) $15,000.00
3. Early Childhood Programs (Latch Key Kids) $14,600.00
4. Palm Springs Lions Club (Eye care 103 youths) $l 1,020.00
5. The Angel Light Academy (Over 95 served) $7,000.00
6. Martha's Village and Kitchen (Food for children) $15,000.00
7. Shoes That Fit of La Quinta (500 needy children) $7,500.00
8. Cathedral City Police Department (G.R.A.S.P, Program) $10,000.00
9. Oasis School Early Outreach Program (Enrichment 7 & 8 grades)  $10,500.00
10. Mariachi Estrella Learning Center (Free music lessons 8-18) $10,000.00
11. C.V. High School (Enrichment Program) $15,000.00
12. Sunny Sands Elementary School ("Book Choice"- Literacy) $2,847.00
13. C.V. Recreation & Parks District (Free Lifeguard classes) $4,000.00
14. Desert Diamonds Softball Team for Girls (Uniforms & equipment) $2,500.00
15. C.V. Youth Baseball Softball Association (325 Youths, 21 teams) $14,173.00
16. D.S.U.S.D. Early Childhood Ed. Program (Preschoolers Literacy) $13,025.00
17. La Lumbre - Centro Cultural (After School Program) $10,000.00
18. C.V. Junior All American Football (scholarships & equipment) $15,000.00
19. John Kelly School, Thermal (Promote Literacy Program) $9,688.00
20. Palm Springs Child Development (Head Start Program) $8,789.00
21. Valley Partners Calif. State University (College Planning Program) $15,000.00

We truly struggle and agonize during the selection process and we are in sincere admiration of those who write and submit the proposals. More to the point, we appreciate your dedication to the children of' the Coachella Valley and applaud your work with them.
