Year 2003 - 2004 Grant Recipients

The Irene W. and Guy L Anderson Children's Foundation made grant money available to non-profit groups and organizations in the Coachella Valley whose purpose is meeting the unmet needs of the youth of the Coachella Valley.

Grant applications were reviewed and chosen by a 5 member non-partisan committee representing, as best as possible, the geographic areas and ethnic diversities of the Coachella Valley. Project originality and diversity was considered for a maximum of $25,000.00 and grants for lesser amounts. Emphasis was placed on programming which focused on the unmet needs of Coachella Youths.

There were a total of 126 applicants requesting grants from the Anderson Children's Foundation this year.  A total amount  of funding requested through the process was $1,711,230.62.

We are proud to announce that 24 organizations were selected to receive grants for the 2003 - 2004 funding year - totaling $266,379.00 to be distributed.


Recipients of Anderson Foundation Grants:

1. Valley Partners, $15,122.00 to purchase 1300 dictionaries for disadvantaged 3rd grade students.

2. California Family Life Center’s "Sheltering Palms" training program. $17,000.00

3. Friends of Cathedral City Library - $10,300.00.  Parent and pre-schoolers reading program.

4. MADD program against alcoholism and drunk driving.  $10,000.00

5. Andrew Jackson Elementary School to address behavioral problems. $10,192.00

6. Fish of Lower Coachella Valley $10,000.00 to distribute food to the needy.

7. Assistance League of P.S. Desert Area to provide clothing for 150 needy youths. $10,000.00

8. Pegasus Riding Academy to assist handicapped with transportation. $8,080.00

9. Mount San Jacinto $8,400.00 for counseling program for youths at a retreat site.

10. James Workman Middle School $3,360.00.  To establish a "Parent Resource Center".

11. P.S.U.S.D.$11,773.00 for Special Education students to enhance Technical & learning skills.

12. P.S.U.S.D. $19,962.00 for intervention service dealing with youth problems and parents.

13. Recording for Blind & Dyslexic.  $9,489.00 for Digital play-back equipment.

14. Inland Congregations United for Change.  $20,000.00 for at-risk youths.

15. Raymond Cree Middle School Performing Arts $8,060.00.

16. Mecca Elementary School $4,800.00 for "Digi-blocks" 3rd grade math program.

17. Calif. State University - P.D. Campus $19,110.00.  Instructional broadcast for teachers & students.

18. Catch a Dream Program $10,000.00 to create college oriented culture to 97% Hispanics.

19. C.V.U.S.D. Pie de la Cuesta Childcare.  $3,305.00

21. D.S.U.S.D. Early Childhood Ed. Program $10,576.00 for dental program to needy youths.

22. Cathedral City High School $10,000.00 for AVID.
Students to tour Universities for higher learning.

23. Desert Hot Springs High $6,900.00 for Theatre Co.  Funds to produce play.

24. Desert Alliance for Community Empowerment $10,000.00 to provide transportation for the poor.

We truly struggle and agonize during the selection process and we are in sincere admiration of those who write and submit the proposals. More to the point, we appreciate your dedication to the children of' the Coachella Valley and applaud your work with them.
