Year 2004 - 2005 Grant Recipients

The Irene W. and Guy L Anderson Children's Foundation made grant money available to non-profit groups and organizations in the Coachella Valley whose purpose is meeting the unmet needs of the youth of the Coachella Valley.

Grant applications were reviewed and chosen by a 7 member non-partisan committee representing, as best as possible, the geographic areas and ethnic diversities of the Coachella Valley. Project originality and diversity was considered for a maximum of $25,000.00 and grants for lesser amounts. Emphasis was placed on programming which focused on the unmet needs of Coachella Youths.

There were a total of 107 applicants requesting Grants from the Anderson Children's Foundation this year. A total amount of funding requested through the process was $2,112,556.26. Out of these, 27 were selected totaling $440,492.00 to be distributed.

Recipients of Anderson Foundation Grants:

1. The Desert Aids Project's play center furniture & materials for children attending. $2,500.00
2. Valley Partners to provide all 3rd grade students in Coachella Valley with dictionaries. $15,785.00
3. Desert Hot Springs High $12,000.00 for transition program "Link Crew" for 9th graders.
4. Palm View Elementary $24,671.75 to expand fine arts program.
5. FISH of the Lower Desert $15,000.00 food bank distribution to the needy.
6. United Cerebral Palsy $14,915.85 after school & pre-school Assistive Technology Program.
7. Desert Springs Middle School Counseling for at risk youths during summer school.$ 5,243.10
8. James Workman Middle School $2,875.00 WEB program.
9. Coachella Valley Raiders $15,000.00
10. P.S.U.S.D. $25,000.00 Early childhood literacy.
11. Happiland Children's Center $25,000.00 replace old playground equipment.
12. Mt. San Jacinto $4,924.00 WEB program to empower at-risk youths.
13. P.S.U.S.D. $24,228.00 to Middle Schools for Counseling.
14. D.S.U.S.D. $10,576.00 dental program for the disadvantaged to promote dental health.
15. Family Services $25,000.00 to improve mental health to youths and their families.
16. Family YMCA $19,440.00 to expand program.
17. Bread of Life $15,000.00 to assist poor families.
18. Inland Congregation United for Change to improve academic achievements. $25,000.00.
19. Mt. San Jacinto $9,800.00 to implement photojournalism technology.
20. GAY drop-in Center $25,000.00 for vehicle.
21 Children's Discovery Museum $22,900.00 for Kindergarten workshop.
22. Building Horizons $23,774.00 for "hands-on" home construction teaching program.
23. C.V. High School Girls Basketball $11,108.20 funding for tournaments this summer.
24. C.V. Housing Coalition $17,871.46 computers and supplies for after school "Kids Club".
25. Lyndon B Johnson Elementary, LEAP Pad materials for at-risk youths. $13,110.00
26. Boys & Girls Club of C.V. $24,770.00 for literacy program.
27. Cathedral City High $10,000.00 for AVID program.

We would like to congratulate those people and organizations who received the grants and we are looking forward to working with you this coming year. Just as important, we would like to thank all those people who submitted grants. We truly struggle and agonize during the selection process and we are in sincere admiration of those who write and submit the proposals. More to the point, we appreciate your dedication to the children of' the Coachella Valley and applaud your work with them.
